Hammersmith mews house
New house behind a facade retention on a cobbled mews
We retained the façade of this unassuming mews house and built a completely new structure behind it. We shook up the standard expectation of floors running from front to back and side to side and instead we introduced shafts and slices of space running vertically through the building to make a spatially exciting and light filled house. The house inverts the usual pattern by placing all the bedrooms on the ground floor and allowing the first and second floors to take advantage of the sun and sky above. The project is being run as design and build with us retained as advisors on matters aesthetic and architectural. This has worked well largely because of the enthusiastic hands-on involvement of the client and an excellent contractor.
