Manor House restoration, extension and Spa

Restoration and extension of a Decimus Burton Manor near Cambridge

The restoration of a wonderful manor house by Decimus Burton was our introduction to this project which went on to involve a large extension to the house itself and the construction of a commercial spa in its grounds. The restoration involved the complete rebuilding of the lantern over the main staircase, refurbishment of the windows and the introduction of new services throughout. The adjacent C19 service wing was made into a huge kitchen and connected back to a family living/dining room extension of the main house. A further new subterranean link leads to the spa complex which has two pools, treatment rooms and a gymnasium which are available for use as a venue for weddings and parties. The floor of the large pool can be raised above water level to make what is, effectively, a ballroom opening out onto a large terrace. The spa complex is largely underneath a landscaped garden which, as a recreation of the original walled kitchen garden, was welcomed by the planners.
